Disadvantages of Shopify Store Backup Methods

There are certain setbacks that you may face while doing this Shopify backup process.

Image Issues

Notice that the image URLs and product variants become dissociated while sorting the CSV files on the Spreadsheet. You may also find some overwritten data.

Partial Data Transfer

While exporting the CSV files, you cannot transfer all types of store information. Check out below to know what are they.

  • Orders: You can import orders only using Shopify APIs. And for this, you need to hire a Shopify expert.
  • Shopify themes: To transfer licensed Shopify themes, contact the Shopify support team.

Please note: Unlicensed themes are not eligible for updates or support. For more information on this, visit Shopify’s Terms of Service.

Non-transferrable Data

  • Visitor traffic data: Not possible to transfer nor import these, as you will be now tracking a new “.myshopify.com” domain.
  • Gift cards & Discount codes: Importing these data from the CSV into your new store is not possible.
  • Custom reports: Cannot transfer saved customized reports.

Cons of Shopify Store Backup Using Apps

Obviously, using Shopify apps to back up your store incurs extra spending out of your pocket.
